The searon of Mirza's house on his arrest, however, revealed

that he has infringed the Colonial Regħlations by investing

in land and houses, and that he had in his possession copies

of the El Islam and Bande Maturam Dota seditious newspapers

proscribed by the Indian Government.

These discoveries furnish material upon which to deal

with him in Executive Council and I shall address you in a

separate despatch and at a later date on this subject.

The action of the Lance Sergeant or policex who gave

the information concerning the meeting at the Gurdwara sees

10. The Ramazan, or Mahomedan Fast, ended yesterday.

Today

is a day of anxiety if any trouble is to be expected but every-

thing is quiet here.

The suspects, with the exception of Mirze, have been in-

formed of the charges against them and have been allowed to

call witnesses in their defence.

The cases against Nos 2--5 are in my opinion establish-

ed. They will be sent under phlice escort to Calcutta. I shali

release Nel- No 7, and as regards Nos 8 and 9 I shall allow

them their liberty pending further communication with the

Indian Government.
